Dolphin pods in South Africa were on average more than four times larger in 2016 than they were in 2008

“It is necessary to the happiness of man that he be mentally faithful to himself. Infidelity does not consist in believing, or in disbelieving, it consists in professing to believe what he does not believe.”

From " The Age of Reason ", by Thomas Paine, 1794

When I was young, I spent several summers with my grandparents on the gulf coast of Texas, first in Aransas Pass, and later Galveston.

I saw a solitary dolphin once or twice a summer, and it was a big event when you did. You yelled, you ran up and down the beach, you pointed. Everyone did.

Well, check out the photos below! Dolphins are booming and burgeoning to a level not seen in my lifetime.

Bottlenose dolphin pods in South Africa have gone from an average of just 18 dolphins per group in 2008 to 76 dolphins in 2016.

That’s great data, but the author of the article that I got that from hedged by omitting the percentage increase. So I had to do the math. It’s a 322% increase, in just eight years.

There’s no mention in the article as to what might be driving the historically-unprecedented dolphin numbers.

The words " mystery ", " baffled " and " puzzled " are memes, used, among numerous similar variants, whenever anyone in the wholly-controlled-and-coopted Political, Academic, Scientific and Media establishments wants to lie about, well, basically anything.

That’s why an article that I’ve appended below, from 2013, is headlined " Mystery over the SEVEN-MILE long ‘super mega-pod’ of 100,000 dolphins spotted off the coast of San Diego."

And it’s why another, from 2019, headlined “Superpod of dolphins gather off the California coast”, reads “The ocean and its inhabitants never fail to amaze .”

And it’s not just the dolphins that are doing great. Another article below, from 2019, is headlined “Gigantic Swarm Of Sea Turtles May Be Largest Ever Caught On Film”

Now, I had to look it up to know that a group of turtles may be called, variously, a bale, turn, dole, or nest. However " swarm " was not among the options listed.

“Swarm” is a wildly pejorative term, usually reserved for hostile insects. The folks in charge are running with it to describe a gorgeous gathering of harmless sea turtles because they’re wild to blunt, defray, deny and spin the great positive transformation that’s currently underway at every level of our reality.

January 26, 2018 - Superpods of 600 dolphins are gathering off the coast of South Africa

Bottlenose dolphins are known for hanging out in large pods, but finding more than 50 or 60 in a group is unusual. Now, researchers studying Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus) off the coast of South Africa have found that populations there have skyrocketed, going from an average of just 18 dolphins per group in 2008 to 76 dolphins in 2016. And those are just the averages: Some superpods in Algoa Bay, a shallow inlet off the Eastern Cape, were as big as 600 members, they report this week in Marine Mammal Science. Dolphin pods were larger in the bay (average size 325), than they were offshore (average size 135).

July 16, 2019 - Superpod of dolphins gather off the California coast

The ocean and its inhabitants never fail to amaze .

Off the coast of Southern California, hundreds of young dolphins were recorded frolicking beneath a fogged sky over weekend.

Chuck Patterson and Trish Meyler shared the joyful scene, spotting the gathering while exploring the coast between Laguna Beach and Dana Point.

This is not the first time a pod of dolphins this size has been spotted. Though a rarity, superpod sightings have been reported all over the world. Thousands were similarly spotted in Monterey back in September.

Usually consisting of 2 to 30 individuals, pods travel and hunt together. Superpods are typically formed when multiple pods come together in an area of high food availability. Usually occurring far away from any kind of human observation, this natural phenomenon is a sight to see.

November 27, 2019 - Gigantic Swarm Of Sea Turtles May Be Largest Ever Caught On Film

With the advent of drones, we have unprecedented access to wildlife phenomena that we wouldn’t normally see . This privilege is highlighted in new footage of what may be the largest swarm of sea turtles ever caught on camera, and it’s breathtaking.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of female sea turtles make their way to Costa Rica’s Ostional National Wildlife Refuge to lay their eggs on the beach. Established in 1983 as a protected area specifically for the turtles, it’s thought the refuge is home to the second-largest gathering of turtles in the world. Only Mexico’s Oaxaca has more during egg-laying season.

This particular swarm of sea turtles, mostly olive ridleys, accumulating out at sea was filmed by biologist Vanessa Bézy back in November 2016. Bézy, who has studied these mass arrivals – known as arribadas – for years, quickly realized she had caught something special on camera.

“I immediately knew there was something special going on,” Bézy told National Geographic. “To this day I’m still blown away by the video. They look like bumper cars out there.”
