Wait, what? From 2021 to 2022, shootings in Paterson, New Jersey decreased by 40%, from 99 to 65. And, from May 2021 to May 2022, shooting incidents in New York City decreased by 31.4%, from 172 to 118.
The Washington Post’s Shayna Jacobs is trying to distract you from violent crime that is decreasing suddenly and exponentially, regardless of geography.
She’s using conscious deception while retaining the firmness of purpose that goes with complete honesty.
I have exposed her duplicity by using what was known in the old days as fact-checking.

Where author Joe Malincanino said “saw a 26% reduction” to put it in the past tense, and walk it back a step from Paterson actually experiencing it.
He noted a “statewide trend” but clamped things down shut by not mentioning decreasing crime in other states, like New York right next store. That’s an example of the propaganda technique known as “compartmentalization”.
The article goes on to say “Shooting incidents in Paterson dropped from 65 in the first half of 2021 to 48 for the same period of this year, according to statistics from the New Jersey State Police.”
Joe basically repeated the headline in the first line of the article as a cue for your subconscious to stop reading. He also avoided plainly stating “from January through June 2022, shootings in Paterson, New Jersey decreased by 26%, from 65 to 48.”
The article goes on to say "The number of shooting victims in Paterson plummeted even more, from 99 in 2021 to 65 in 2022, or a 40% drop, the state police data showed. Those numbers include people who were killed and those who suffered non-fatal wounds.
We’ve just learned that Joe Malincanino violated a strict journalistic rule, where you list the largest number or percentage first and then the rest in descending order. Here’s he Satanically inverted it, in journalistic parlance “burying” the larger 40% below the smaller 26%.
He avoided plainly stating “from 2021 to 2022, shootings in Paterson, New Jersey decreased by 40%, from 99 to 65.”

Joe bravely quibbled that it was the number of shooting victims which decreased to imply that number had decreased exponentially because shooting accuracy had somehow decreased.
