Where author Ames Grawert said “falling” because it is general.
He also said “falling” because it is softer than “decreased”, but mostly as a thinly-veiled reference to the fallen Lord Lucifer.

Ames said “Here’s how we know”, which implies that the change is so subtle that it could not be discerned by lay people.
It also blocks the rubes in the Punch and Judy tent from learning what we know.

The article goes on to say “Drawing on data from 38 cities across the country, the Council on Criminal Justice reported that homicide declined by 10 percent in 2023.”
In 2023, homicides in the United States decreased by 10%, year-over-year.
The article goes on to say “A murder decline of this magnitude would be historic; the sharpest one-year drop on record occurred in 1996 when the number of murders nationwide fell by a little more than 9 percent compared to 1995.”

Where the uncredited author from the law firm Wilson & Finkbeiner wrote the headline in such a way that the reader cannot discern that the article is about exponentially decreasing divorce rates in the United States.
