The 14-degree average decrease in the four all-time low state temperature records set in the U.S. from 2000 to present is 1,455% greater than the .9 degree average increase in the two all-time high state temperature records set during the same time period

Cold, cold, cold
Cold, cold, cold
Freezing, it was freezing cold in that hotel
I had no money, my special friend was gone
The TV set was busted so she went along
I called room, room service,
I’m down here on my knees
A peach or a pear, or a coconut please,
But they was cold

From “Cold, Cold, Cold”, by Lowell George, 1972

THE DATA

Whether high or low, all-time state temperature records are very hard to beat. Ergo, from 2009 to present, just four all-time U.S. state cold records have been broken; one in 2009 in Maine, one in Oklahoma in 2011, and two in 2019, in Illinois and Hawaii. And, from 2006 to present, there have been only two all-time heat state records set in the U.S.,: one tied in 2006 in South Dakota and another broken in 2012 in South Carolina.

In 2019, weather.com’s Linda Lam falsely inflated the number of all-time state heat records by 50% , from two to three. She falsely claimed that a high temperature record had been set in Georgia in 2015, when, in fact, the current Georgia record is from 1952. I have exposed her duplicity by using what was known in the old days as “fact checking”.

The magnitude of the 14-degree average decrease in the four all-time low state temperature records in the U.S. from 2009 to present is 1,455% greater than that of the .9 degree average increase in its two all-time high state temperature records from 2006 to present.

From 2009 to 2019, the average annual rate at which U.S. state cold records was broken was .5% .

On July 15, 2006, South Dakota’s all-time high temperature record remained unchanged, in a tie with Gann Valley on July 5, 1936.

On January 16, 2009, the Maine all-time cold temperature state record decreased by 2% , from -48 degrees in 1925 to -50 degrees.

On February 10, 2011, the Oklahoma all-time state cold record decreased by 15% , from -27 in 1905 and 1930 to -31 degrees. Here ,the tie in 1905 and 1930 is instructive, compared to the exponential decrease in temperature Oklahoma in 2011.

On June 29, 2012, South Carolina’s all-time high temperature record increased by 1.8%, from 111 degrees in June 1954 to 113 degrees in 2012.

In 2019, the 19.5-degree average margin by which U.S. state cold records was broken was 129% greater, or well more than double their 8.5-degree average margin from 2009 to 2011.

In 2019, two all-time state cold temperature records were broken in the U.S.: one in Illinois, and the other in Hawaii.

In 2019, the two all-time state cold temperature records which were broken in the U.S. was 200% greater than the .5% average state cold record per year documented there from 2009 to 2019.

On January 31, 2019, the Illinois all-time cold state record decreased by 6%, from -36 on January 5, 1999 to -38 in 2019.

On February 12, 2019, the Hawaii all-time state cold record decreased by 33% , from 12 degrees on May 17, 1979 to 8 degrees on February 11, 2019. Both coolweather.net and the weather channel have blacked out the 2019 Hawaii record .

On Friday, February 2, 2023, Mount Washington’s record-low temperature for the date decreased by 29% , from -32 degrees in 1963 to -45 degrees.

ANALYSIS

On January 14, 2022, nhm.ac.uk said “The last eight years have been the hottest on record, according to NASA”.

Well, if that’s true, that 2014 to 2021 were the eight hottest on record, then why is the magnitude of the 14% average decrease in the four all-time low state temperature records in the U.S. from 2009 to present 1,455% greater than that of the two .9 degree average all-time high temperature state record increase from 2006 to present?

And why are the four all-time state low state temperature records from 2009 to present 100% greater than the two all-time high state temperature records from 2006 to present?

If 2014 to 2021 were the eight hottest years on record, then how could 50% of the all-time high state temperature records set in the United States from 2006 to present be set in years outside the eight years from 2014 to 2021?

It’s not true. It’s a gigantic, bald-faced lie. I have exposed the duplicity of the U.K.'s Natural History Museum and NASA by using what was known in the old days as “fact checking”.

On January 15, 2020, noaa.gov said “NOAA finds ocean heat content was the highest in recorded history. Earth’s warming trend continued in 2019, making it the second-hottest year in NOAA’s 140-year climate record just behind 2016.”

Well, if that’s true, that 2019 was the second hottest year in history, just behind 2016, then why were the two all-time low state temperature records that were broken in 2019 700% greater than the .5% average annual rate at which all-time low state temperature records were broken from 2000 to 2019?

And why was the 19.5-degree average margin by which U.S. all-time low state tempurature records was broken in 2019 129% greater, or well more than double their 8.5-degree average margin from 2009 to 2011?

And how could two of the four, or 50% of the all-time low state temperature records in the United States from 2009 to present be set in 2019?

It’s not true. It’s a gigantic, bald-faced lie. I have exposed the duplicity of NOAA by using what was known in the old days as “fact checking”.

To maintain current programming levels, stop reading immediately, narrow your eyes bitterly, breathe through your mouth and affirm “the heat is hiding in the deep ocean” or “yeah, but that’s there”.

THE ARTICLES

On January 31, 2019, wunderground.com said “The Arctic Midwest, Day Two: Four All-Time Cold Records Topple”.

Dr. Jeff Masters

At least four all-time cold temperature records were tied or beaten in the Arctic-like Midwest U.S. on Thursday morning, as the coldest air since 1994 settled in for a second day. Most notably, the all-time cold record for the state of Illinois may have fallen, as a cooperative observer in Mount Carroll, Illinois, recorded a temperature of –38°F. This will have to be verified by NOAA to determine whether it officially beat the current all-time Illinois cold record of –36°F set Jan. 5, 1999 in Congerville. Another station in Mount Carroll only fell to –29°F on Thursday morning, so there may be an issue with the station that recorded the potentially record-breaking minus 38. However, at least one other station in Illinois hit –36°F on Thursday morning—Morrison—so it seems likely that the Illinois state low temperature record was at least tied."

If you have three temperatures, -38. -36 and -29, which station would you question? The -29, of course. Yet, here, Weather Underground’s Dr. Jeff Masters goes agaist logic and reason and suggests exactly the opposite.

I have exposed his duplicity by using what was known in the old days as “fact checking”.

From 2000 to 2019, only two all-time state cold temperature records were broken: one in Maine in 2009 and a second in Oklahoma in 2011.

On January 31, 2019, the Illinois all-time cold record decreased by 6%, from -36 on January 5, 1999 to -38.

On February 12, 2019, weather.com said “Illinois and Hawaii May Have Set All-Time Cold Records in the Past Two Weeks”.

Author Linda Lam goes on to say “The current official coldest temperature recorded in Hawaii is 12 degrees, which makes Hawaii the only state that has not seen subzero temperatures. This was recorded at the Mauna Kea Observatory (elevation of 13,796 feet) on May 17, 1979. However, early on Feb. 11, 2019, several sensors atop Mauna Kea observed temperatures between 8 and 11 degrees Fahrenheit as an unusually strong area of low pressure approached Hawaii. If those sensors are determined to be accurate that would set a new record for coldest temperature in the Aloha State.”

Can you see how Linda hopefully threw the 11-degree temperature in there?

A current story on coolweather.net still has the 1979 record in place. That’s an example of the propaganda technique known as “stonewalling” or “news blackout”.

July 25, 2022: “According to The Weather Channel the official coldest temperature recorded in Hawaii is 12 degrees.”

On February 12, 2019, the Hawaii all-time cold record decreased by 33%, from 12 degrees on May 17, 1979 to 8 degrees on February 11, 2019. Both coolweather.net and the weather channel have blacked out the 2019 record.

On February 12, 2019, weather.com’s Linda Lam said "There have been three all-time state heat records set since 2000: in 2015 in Georgia, in 2012 in South Carolina, and in 2006 in South Dakota.

(An excellent recap of Oklahoma’s impressive state record of –31°F (−35°C), which was recorded at Nowata on February 20, 2011, appeared in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society.)"

OKLAHOMA

February 10, 2011: “Around that same time, Nowata reached -31 at the Mesonet weather gathering station. The Nowata reading is unofficial pending further investigation of equipment and panel review. The previous coldest temperature was -27 set back in 1930 in Watts and also in 1905 in Vinita.”

On February 10, 2011, the Oklahoma all-time state cold record decreased by 15%, from -27 in 1905 and 1930 to -31.

MAINE

“Coldest recorded temperature in Maine history: -50 degrees, on the Big Black River, about 20 miles south of the town of Allagash, near the border with Quebec, on Jan. 16, 2009.”

" The previous record, -48° Fahrenheit, was set in Van Buren, Maine almost 84 years earlier, on January 19, 1925."

On January 16, 2009, the Maine all-time cold temperature state record decreased by 2%, from -48 degrees in 1925 to -50 degrees.

GEORGIA?

On February 12, 2019, weather.com’s Linda Lam said “There have been three all-time state heat records set since 2000: in 2015 in Georgia, in 2012 in South Carolina, and in 2006 in South Dakota.”

I can’t find any news stories on the all-time Georgia state heat record. Oh, wait, whoopsie:

“What’s the hottest temperature ever recorded in Georgia? An all time record high of 112 degrees was recorded in Louisville, GA on July 24, 1952.”

Weather.com’s Linda Lam falsely inflated the number of all-time state heat records by 50%, from two to three. She claimed a high temperature record had been set in Georgia in 2015; the Georgia recrod is from 1952. I have exposed her duplicity by using what was known in the old days as “fact checking”.

SOUTH CAROLINA

On December 18, 2012, live5news.com said “June 29, 2012 was SC’s hottest day on record”.

The uncredited author goes on to say “State climatologist Hope Mizzell said Tuesday that South Carolina set a high temperature record on June 29 with 113 degrees. The hottest temperature ever recorded in South Carolina had been 111 degrees in Camden in June 1954.”

On June 29, 2012, South Carolina’s all-time high temperature record increased by 1.8% , from 111 degrees in June 1954 to 113 degrees.

“The highest temperature of record in South Dakota is 120 degrees Fahrenheit (° F) observed July 15, 2006, at Usta. Usta in northwest South Dakota, 120 degrees F on July 15, 2006, (tied with Gann Valley, July 5, 1936)”

On July 15, 2006, South Dakota’s all-time high temperature record remained unchanged, a tie with Gann Valley n July 5, 1936.

On February 4, 2023, the New York Post said “Mount Washington as cold as Mars with record-breaking wind chills of 110 below”.

Patrick Reilly

This cold is out of this world.

New Hampshire’s Mount Washington felt more like Mars than planet Earth on Friday as wind chills dipped below an unfathomable minus 110 degrees, a new record for the coldest wind chill ever recorded in the US.

Known for having some of the world’s worst weather, Mount Washington saw air temperatures plummet to minus 46 degrees with wind speeds averaging over 100 miles per hour with gusts over 125 miles per hour as the artic air mass wreaked havoc Friday, according to the Mount Washington observatory.

Visibility atop the mountain was less than one-sixteenth of a mile — or just over 100 yards.

Meanwhile on Mars, temperatures on the surface this week reached a balmy high of 16 degrees with a low of minus 105, according to NASA. The space agency said temperatures of the red planet can fluctuate between minus 225 and 70 degrees.

MOUNT WASHINGTON

On Friday, February 2, 2023, Mount Washington’s record-low temperature for the date decreased by 29%, from -32 degrees in 1963 to -45 degrees.
