Well, here is the reason we will never see the Big Secret:
"Under the Invention Secrecy Act of 1951, the government may restrict the publication and dissemination of information about new inventions if their disclosure could be “detrimental to the national security.” At the end of fiscal year 2006, there were 4942 invention secrecy orders in effect. These “secretized” patents are kept in the vault at the U.S. Patent Office
(Park 5 Building). They never receive a patent number, and the inventor
is rarely, if ever, compensated by the government for use of the invention.
The U.S. Patent Office reportedly has a nine-member committee that screens patents in order to protect “national security”.
A hidden purpose of this committee is to also find and remove from public access energy-related patents which could threaten the fossil fuel and power monopolies."
That is, of course, UNLESS IT HITS THE INTERNET FIRST……
