I just got an email from someone with a big mailing list, whining about some new congressional molestation around removing the slogan, ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’ from US monies and here’s how I responded:

Haha, they’re talking about the masonic ‘god,’ the ‘hermaphroditic she-goat’ in whom they trust, so why not let the jerks remove that empty phrase from their fiat money? If they really trusted in the actual God they wouldn’t have created this Hitlerian ‘New Patriotism’ monstrosity after they blew up the World Ttrade Center. ~Don

How do you respond to these sleepwalkers who dutifully send around fearful, boilerplate rants to huge mailing lists?

Respond with dry humor, sarcasm, or a simple “you’re kidding, right?” That last really makes 'em spin.
One some of the commemorative coins, they put “In God We Trust” around the edge – You should have heard the yelling about it not being on them! People were actually threatening not to use the coins. As if that would make any difference. Duwahleh!
