The NZ government agency NIWA (national institute for water and atmosphere) was being taken to court by the NZ Climate Science Coalition (NZCSC) for allegedly fraudulently manipulating the national temperature record, biasing it to show a warming. NIWA has subsequently (and somewhat surprisingly) claimed that they have nothing to do with the national temperature record, saying that all such records are now to be deemed as unofficial and strictly for internal research purposes. Rather strange since they are the agency that holds the data and is responsible for collating and analysing it, the results of which have had direct influence on government policy (like our signing of the Kyoto protocol – our govt is a total corporate lacky, BTW, so even if NIWA had said we were going to have Arctic conditions in 20 years it likely wouldn’t have mattered).
