Lately there has been allegations of U.S. Embassy in Stockholm having kept Swedes under surveillance. It started in Norway where investigations are already underway. Just the other day a prosecutor has decided to start an investigation here in Sweden too. Maybe it will spread into Finland as well.
If the embassy has gathered info or registered Swedes it may be a matter of unlawful intelligence work.
The embassy has admitted to a non-secret system of detecting activities threatening the embassy, the so called “Surveillance Detection Unit”.
Both the Swedish government and security police has adamantly denied knowledge. The U.S. side says they’ve informed Swedish “authorities” without specifying which. Its at this time unclear to what extent this surveillance has gone.
There has been a lot of coverage of these allegations in media here in Sweden over the past week. Of course, no mentioning of that the vicinity of the embassy was gifted about one and a half month ago…
